How this calculator works

The trip cost is distance × consumption × price, with a unit conversion on each of the three legs of the multiplication. Every supported consumption unit is converted to L per 100 km (for fuel vehicles) or kWh per 100 km (for EVs); every supported price unit is converted to the chosen currency per L or per kWh.

  • Constants used: 1 US gal = 3.785411784 L, 1 UK gal = 4.54609 L, 1 mi = 1.609344 km.
  • The non-USD currencies use a fixed USD peg (EUR ≈ $1.08, GBP ≈ $1.27) — totals are NOT live-exchange-rate accurate.
  • Mismatched combinations (e.g. ICE consumption with an electricity price) surface a clear error.
  • Round-trip doubles every leg. Use it for "there and back" commutes.
