Tax / VAT / GST Calculator

Type a net or gross amount, pick a tax rate, and see the result instantly. Add tax to a net price, remove it from a gross, or extract just the tax portion. Country presets seed the rate and currency (DE → 19% EUR, FR → 20% EUR, GB → 20% GBP, US → 0% USD — states set their own). Add a composite rate for state or city tax on top. Bulk mode processes one amount per line. Nothing leaves your browser.

Add vs remove vs extract

Add tax takes a pre-tax (net) price and returns the gross price the customer pays. Remove tax takes a gross price (what the customer paid) and returns the pre-tax portion. Extract tax takes a gross price and returns just the tax amount — the inverse view of remove tax, useful for bookkeeping.

Composite rates

Some jurisdictions stack taxes additively: the US has no federal sales tax, but states add their own (say 6%) and cities may add a further percentage on top (say 1.5%). Type the primary rate in the main field, and any composite rate in the field below — the effective rate is the sum. The breakdown table shows each component and its share of the total tax.

Country presets

The country picker seeds both the rate and the currency. These are standard rates — many countries apply reduced rates to food, books, hospitality, and children’s clothing; luxury goods may carry a higher rate. Use the rate field to override.

Rounding

Three modes are available. Half up (the default for most currencies) rounds 0.5 away from zero. Half even — banker's rounding — rounds 0.5 to the nearest even integer, which keeps long sums free of systematic bias. Truncate simply drops everything past the precision (useful for point-of-sale displays).

Bulk mode

Paste a list of amounts (one per line) and the bulk tab processes them in order, ignoring blank lines and # comments. Each row shows the original amount, the tax, and the gross-or-net (depending on the chosen bulk operation), with a footer that totals all rows.
